So.. The last few months have been a bit crazy for me over here at Small Stuff HQ, and I really want to share with you guys what I've been working on and what's been happening behind the scenes.
8 Months Since the Relaunch!
August was my busiest month so far, working in the pop-up shop in the Winter Garden's in Sheffield was so fantastic, albeit a little tiring, but still so great to showcase all the lovely products, have incredible feedback about the shop and of course Small Stuff UK has really started to take shape. I'm so thankful all the support and purchases from all my fantastic friends, family and customers and I've met some really interesting and fabulous people including other small business owners too.
This weekend ( 21st-23rd September) sees the first ever Taste of Independent market in Sheffield City Centre, this is set to be a fantastic weekend shining the spotlight on some of Sheffield's finest independent businesses and their products along to the soundtrack of some fanatsic local bands and a DJ set by Reverend and the makers frontman Jon McClure on Saturday night. I'm exciting to have a pop-up here and I'll be right in the heart of it in the Peace Gardens. You can find out more about the weekend on their website here.
But that's not all.. In August, I also found out I was one of the lucky winners of a really exciting scheme called eBay doers - the competition was for start-up entrepreneurs to explain their story, vision and product to The Guardian and eBay through a series of stages and eventually I got through to the last round - to pitch my idea against a judging panel of industry greats. Only, I didn't know who was on the judging panel until the morning I had my pitch and one of the judges was the one and only Touker Suleyman (of Dragon's Den fame!)
It turned out that the judges really loved my idea, and I'm so excited to announce I will be bringing out my own product - a set of sustainably produced wooden toys, that can be personalised for your own child. These toys will be crafted from beginning to end in the UK and utilising timber from fantastic charity forests, sawmills and small independent suppliers all whilst working with guidance and support from some fantastic mentors and other entrepreneurs through The Guardian and eBay.
I'm so, so excited about this project and I know you guys are going to love it too - I can't wait to show you all the final design (although there's a sneak peek below). If you'd like to be the first to get your hands on these wooden sets, you can sign up to the mailing list here. You can also find out more about the scheme in The Weekend magazine as part of The Guardian out on the 27th October.
But this is just part of my business and I want to continue to grow and support independent makers and suppliers and still be able to give my customers ethically produced, gorgeous clothing, books and toys that can be kept or handed down. That's why in the run up to Christmas I'll be showing you guys some fantastic new lines I'll be adding to the shop!
Watch this space, the next few months are very exciting!
